The Balaclava is a piece of cloth you can put onto your head to conceal your identity (username). It can become very useful for when you want to betray a group of people (or just one person) but afterwards still be in good standing with that group of players by removing the equipment/amour, or the other way around. Along with that, it doesn't weigh that much either.
Downsides[]
The Balaclava requires other pieces of clothing to be useful, as wearing it by itself, killing multiple players and coming back without wearing it will most likely result in someone still remembering your clothing and killing you. It's also possible to see your username if you died and somebody views or loots your corpse, so even coming back without it someone might see your username and again, shoot you.
The piece of cloth is also, not armored. you'll take as much damage as anybody else if you use it by itself.
